Dear Sweet Girl...

Last night I walked into our kitchen to find your father holding you close to him with tears in his eyes. He looked up at me and said “It just hit me that she’s going to get married one day” and then he carried you off to rock you before bedtime.
It’s amazing the things we know - and yet, still get knocked down by. One day we will watch you walk into your very first classroom with a brand new backpack. One day we will hold our hearts in our throats as you drive away in your first car. One day you will tell us you are in love.
For now, we try to savor the way your breathing slows as you drift off to sleep on our shoulder or the funny faces you give us when you  know we’ve caught you doing something you’re not supposed to do. We’ll let the sweet way you roll “mama” and “dada” off your tongue ring in our ears - but I know we’ll just keep getting bowled over. Knocked down by the fury of our love and reality.

  1. Now THAT's a blog for the day! Do you also do the old AT&T pull the heart strings commercials?
Don't ya worry. As long as you are there for her for all the skinned knees & boo boos, teasing boys, boy friends, help with homework, and new discoveries, all of her accomplishments, milestones, and sprouting of wings is the whole reason to celebrate life when it happens! Aliyah will do all of the above and we will all be there to woop it up with her. You two will be her touchstone.
    Love, Grandpa

  2. T, when she gets married it just means she brings another amazing person into your lives and then they will have amazing people together and it will just bring you more love. Trust me on this. Each step gets sweeter. I love how much you love her.
