Perfect Piggies

Today I am celebrating... I refuse to dread birthdays or aging (maybe because I have a big one right around the corner)!

I believe that we are given one life and that we should appreciate that gift each day. However, I know that it can be easy to take things for granted when we get lost in the daily grind.

So... today I am not. today I am celebrating. I am so very thankful for my 29 years and all the lessons & blessings this path has taken me.

The funny thing is, since I became a mom, I can't help but think about my parents and how they first celebrated this day (after hours and hours of really hard work - thanks mom!!).

and now here I am...
I couldn't image more perfect sand-covered piggies to love on!
Happy Birthday to Me xoxo

When You Wish Upon a Star...

I am going through our pictures from our family Disney trip tonight and smiling from ear to ear. It was just like the last time we went with the whole family when I was 8 years old (minus the Beam-Wards)... while Tyler, Aliyah and my brother's wife were a nice addition. This time, Aliyah got to wear the "1st Visit!" button.

Twirly-Whirly Girl

Very recently, Aliyah has started reacting to what we pick out for her to wear each day. If we pull out a pair of shoes she’s never seen before, she has to inspect them carefully for a few minutes before she’ll let us put them on her feet. She has her favorite shoes (depending on the day) and will become very opinionated on which pair she would like to wear.

When we put her in a twirl-worthy dress, she has begun to make the cutest high pitched “Ooooh!” noise. And after dressing her, if you set her down in front of a mirror, she will tilt her chin down, bat her eyes, and flirt with her reflection. Then she will spin and spin. It really is the most darling thing!

Tyler and I keep laughing at her obvious self approval. She’s cute as all get out, and now she KNOWS it - we are so in trouble!
While I absolutely love putting a little dress on Aliyah, I am well aware that the day may come when she says “No way mama, I want to wear an old t-shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes!” ...So while she’s still willing to play along, I’m having fun putting her in pretty vintage dresses and big fluffy tutus.
The thing I love most about vintage dresses is that for half the price of a new dress, you get twice the charm and can almost guarantee no one else will be wearing the same thing at playgroup. With Fall on it's way, I like pairing them with brightly colored tights or a soft cotton cardigan.

Little Viking

My 10 year high school reunion is this weekend... 10 years?!? When did that happen? I am really excited that an old friend is flying all the way from Norway and that we have planned a small group dinner this week to catch up. My great-grandmother spoke Norwegian and I am proud that Aliyah makes her heritage look so good.

NO!?!?!

I love the "who, me?" look Aliyah has perfected
Aliyah has officially mastered the “No” headshake. She still doesn’t verbalize the word but she definitely understands what moving her head back and forth means now. We’ve been the recipients of the No headshake about two dozen times already. It was cute the first day but now I’m like, “Don’t “no” me, little woman! You better leave that poor kitty alone"
